During the process of creating this post, I have found it fun, interesting, and fascinating to research about Poland. Poland seemingly has a rich country history, and a previously violent history with other country such as Russia. I have worked collaboratively with Joshua, and we helped each other find information on the topic.

Close to the Edge
WALT: visualise and summarise the text in our own words
Close to the edge is a short story written by Cecile Kruger, and below you will find a short summary and animation that visually explains the text.
Summary:
Close to the edge is a short story written by Cecile Kruger. In this text, the main character is a teenager named Opal, who is presumably travelling down a narrow road on a hillside with her mother in the desert, and they have been travelling on foot like this for days. They haven't accessed food or water for an amount of days, and they are tired and thirsty. Opal gets very tired and thinks of interesting things to keep her mind off thirst, but that leads her too close to the edge and she nearly falls off the cliff. As the sun sets, a laurel-green smoke can be seen in the sky, and after being swamped in dust and sweat for many days Opal finds a small slit on the cliffside, and she begins to investigate inside. She soon finds something wet, that seems to wrap around her feet.
The author does not directly tell us what this wet thing is, but does give the audience multiple clues, and the wet substance is highly likely to be water.

My Name is Rez Summary
WALT: visualise and summarise the text in our own words.
My name is Rez is a graphic told by Toby Morris. Rez is a young Kurdish girl refugee born in Pakistan, with a Turkish father and an Iraq mother. Rez’s father and mother are both Kurdish, and had to escape their countries because they became unsafe for them. They moved to Iran, where they met. Iran became too dangerous for them so gained official refugee status and moved to Pakistan, where they had 3 children, the 3rd one being Rez. They moved to a camp where they stayed for 9 years. They decided to move to New Zealand, because the camp and the school that Rez and her siblings went to weren’t very nice. At New Zealand, Rez went to a school, but she was bullied because she couldn’t speak English; however the only phrase she could say in English was “my name is Rez”. Her teacher was kind and supportive to her, but she was still bullied. Then she signed up for activities such as a Kapa Haka group, and a netball team, which she found both fun. Rez grew up and became a youth adviser for the red cross, and then became lawyer at a large lawyer firm, and started a programme to help young refugees, and she became young New Zealander of the year in 2017. Despite having a difficult start to life, Rez became a successful lawyer.

Refugee Poem
WALT: creatively write and present a piece of poetry.
For today, Huia Whanau's task was to create a Refugee-based poem, and we could choose between 3 selections of poems; Haiku, lyric and acrostic. I personally choose acrostic, as I thought it would be interesting to create a sentence for each letter in the word refugee. I do not have much skill in creating poems, so this proved challenging, and it can be difficult to conclude a sentence for each letter.

Refugee title
WALT: design & create a missing person's poster
For this task, I found it relatively easy, though I did go through choosing a relevant background, and I choose a large wave, like the ones on the Refugee journeys, particularly Isabel's journey. I choose a boat because all of the families are travelling by boat. I selected an appropriate font that I thought would be fitting, and I also decided to include the text at the top, which was included on the initial cover. I personally found this task fun and creative.
