WALT: research how far the character's journey may be.

For this task, I decided to visually represent the distance between each country, as well as write the distance. The shortest distance by far is Cuba to Miami, just 531 kilometres, while the longest is Germany to Cuba, 8,036 kilometres. The part of researching this liked the most was to research the distance between each country, because I find it interesting how many kilometres you would have to travel between each country.

Spanish to English translation

WALT: create a quality blog post that explains our learning


For Wednesday, on week 3 of term 2, I chose to do the task of translating 4 selected Spanish words chosen by my teacher, Miss Fleet. Finding these translations was very easy, as all I had to do was  write the words/phrases into google translate, and then write the translations onto the document. For this task, I used google draw, because I felt like that would suit the task. What the words mean to me is that Senor makes sense as being sir, and I don't use the word sir very often. Abuelita means granny, and my grandparents are important to me. Manana, morning means to me that without a morning their would not be a rest of the day, and an opportunity to get out of bed. Son Cubano doensn't mean much to me personally because I do not know any cubans.

Boat design

WALT: Design a boat made of recycled materials.

For my boat, the main material is wood, but also includes metal and a yellow tarpaulin sail. The boats is called the viaje americano, which is Spanish for american trip, because Isabel and her family are going to America. My boat is powered by metal pedals, like the ones on a bike except metal, the majority of it's structure is wood, including the wheel. All 3 passenger pedal to make the wheel turn, and it may look like the wheel would collide with the rod that connects it to the boat due to the protrusions on wheel that help with powering but, actually their is a gap between each side of the protrusions, even though it is not visible on the image. The wheel itself spans wider than the width of the boat, and was initially a barrel. The protrusions are 2 planks with a gap in each one, that span the width of the barrel. Passengers can also choose to row and/or paddle. Their is also a prominent sail that allows the boat to move with the wind. The paddles are also used to steer. Inside the boat, their is lining of metal on the wood to make sure that the boat doesn't leak, but the wood is reinforced so that probably won't happen.
